You may consider career coaching if you are feeling stuck or unsatisfied in your current job, unsure about your career direction, facing challenges in your job hunt, or seeking guidance on how to advance in your career. If you are feeling overwhelmed or lacking motivation in your professional life, career coaching can provide the support and guidance you need.
A professional coach can offer a variety of tools and techniques while providing an objective perspective. My coaching approach is informed by my professional experiences in corporate training, educational leadership, psychology and my personal experiences of reinventing my own life several times over in the face of challenging life events. Conventional career coaches are distinct from life coaches and different again from psychotherapists.
Currently, the term “coach” is used very broadly. Paula has extensive formal qualifications in career development, adult education and psychology, accreditation with the Career Development Association Australia and the Australian Institute of Applied Psychologists. Her credentials include a Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Psychology, Master in Education, Graduate Diplomas in Adult Education, Workplace Assessment and Career Development. Paula is a certified NLP Practitioner and Menopause coach. These accreditations require Paula to have completed stringent education and experience requirements and has demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence in coaching.
Paula has qualifications and expertise in both disciplines: coaching and psychotherapy. Having that broad, deep training and perspective allows us to help you understand and master your habits, thoughts and feelings that hold you back from achieving your most important goals.
The differences between coaching and psychotherapy are:
🩷 Coaches focus on the future. Therapists focus on the past.
🩷 Coaches work with the conscious mind. Therapists work with the unconscious mind.
🩷 Coaches’ work is often time-limited with specific desired behavioral outcomes. Therapists’ work is open- ended with “understanding” as the primary objective.
There are similarities between coaching and psychotherapy as well. They are:
🩷 Both are concerned with making concrete changes in your emotional wellbeing and life.
🩷 Both work to understand the self-limiting beliefs or behaviour caused by thoughts and emotions that you may or may not be aware of.
🩷 Both practices help you grow, change and transform.
Absolutely! Transformation is what we love. We’ve seen many clients change in powerful ways. And they’ve likely had ambitions, goals, concerns and challenges that are similar to yours. Coaching can be the catalyst to profoundly shift the trajectory of your life, enabling you to change the quality of your life and the direction of your career in ways you never dreamed of.
The time that the career coaching process takes depends greatly on a wide range of factors: your goal(s), your commitment and openness to change, your capacity for introspection, your circumstances, how quickly and thoughtfully you complete assignments, and other unique factors.
We have individuals who come in for a very brief engagement (e.g., one mock interview coaching session). We have others who come in focused on one goal, achieve that goal, and begin work on another goal and then another. Those individuals who partner with us in multiple capacities and for multiple goals work with us for a year or more. You will have more precise information during your first consultation with your career coach.

Coaching can be a waste of time and money if you don’t have clear, specific goals to measure your progress and give you direction. If you aren’t committed enough to your own goals. Using a 1-10 scale (10 is highest), ask yourself how committed you are to getting the results you want. Did you say 9 or 10? You’re ready. 6 or under? Probably not now. In between? OR if you’re not working with the right coach FOR YOU. Our discovery call will determine if we’re a great fit.
Being smart and competent will help you during coaching. But those qualities don’t tell you if you need a coach. That boils down to just 3 questions.
Usually, are you eager to go to work, basically feeling fulfilled by your job/career? If you said yes, you don’t need coaching. If you said no go to the next question…
Do you know what different job/career would truly excite you? If you said no, coaching can help. If you said yes
Are you making progress toward that different, exciting job/career as fast as you want? If yes, you don’t need coaching. If no, coaching can help.
More specifically, people turn to coaching for the following reasons:
They want to find a new career because...
🩷 The current one is not satisfying enough
🩷 The current one is enjoyable but not feeling meaningful enough
🩷 It’s time to move on to a career that builds on what they’ve learned
🩷 They have other career dreams or want to use other talents and passions
They aren’t acting on their career goals quickly or effectively enough because...
🩷 They need help coming up with a realistic plan.
🩷 They want help figuring out how to overcome difficulties along the way.
🩷 They want help staying on track and not getting distracted.
They want out a better job in the same career.
They want to determine what kind of job would:
🩷 Be more fulfilling
🩷 Be less stressful
🩷 Be a better challenge
🩷 Be a better fit
🩷 Allow more learning and growth
🩷 Be the next step forward.
If any of these issues describe you, a coach can help.
Smart and competent executives recognize they need to continually assess their success and skill levels and improve them where it will have the greatest impact. Sometimes training is the right answer. Sometimes one-on-one coaching. Often, combining the two, especially through a competent coach, gets the quickest results as you get to move along at your pace and not a classroom pace.
Typical areas where coaching can help include:
🩷 Communication skills
🩷 Creative problem solving and visioning
🩷 Interpersonal Dynamics
🩷 Learning Styles
🩷 Mentoring skills
🩷 Motivational Skills
Coaching can also help executives and leaders wade through any messy or complex situations and challenges, helping clients find clarity, insight and direction.
Career coaching can vary in duration depending on the specific program chosen and the individual needs of the client. While classic programs typically last a minimum of six weeks, there are also more flexible options available that can be tailored to fit your schedule and goals. Ultimately, the length of your career coaching experience will depend on your unique circumstances and the outcomes you hope to achieve.

What happens in our 1:1 coaching sessions stays in our sessions. I fully understand the value of your trust, and I take every precaution to safeguard it. At your first session, you will be provided with a detailed description of the ethical code that governs every client-coach relationship I enter.
We start each coaching engagement with a comprehensive interview and, occasionally, a perceptual lens assessment. This allows us to develop a deep understanding of you, your life stories, and your underlying operating system in a short period of time. Armed with this knowledge, we then begin to help you think about your situation and your life in new ways.We ask powerful questions, we assign homework using science-backed exercises and processes, and we often evaluate individualised metrics to help you tap into your unique potential.
Our process is invigorating; you will begin to find clarity, change your mood states and take powerful new actions in multiple areas of your life.Worth Careers Coaching is transformation-oriented, results-oriented and holistic. Paula is a certified Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) coaching practitioner so she focuses on understanding the elements of change from the perspective of the brain. We apply the latest neuroscience discoveries to better leverage change in our clients through creating sustained awareness and focus in the moment to override reactive emotional tendencies and begin to change habitual neurotransmitter patterns.
A Cognitive Behavioural Coaching approach develops an awareness of the habitually recurring thinking patterns that create your mood states and reactions to events, circumstances and others. As negative thought patterns and moods can be personally and interpersonally destructive, we coach you to transmute destructive thoughts to minimise the impact on your performance, mood and results.
Kegan and Lahey’s 4 -Step Immunity to Change Approach Commitment to Change Model: While individuals can change and can be taught to change, they often don’t change or resist change. The root cause is often a competing commitment outside their conscious awareness. This Kegan and Lahey model is a four-step process that exposes an individual’s hidden commitments that conflict with their conscious goal.
